We Review Tom Ford’s Eau de Soleil Blanc

Meet Soleil Blanc’s younger, more playful sibling. Summer in a bottle.

Published Categorized as Perfume Reviews

We review Eau de Soleil Blanc, a citrusy Eau de Toilette (EDT) hearted in florals and warmed by amber, vanilla, and coconut.

Tom Ford

Having served as the Creative Director at Italy-based fashion powerhouse Gucci and, previously, at French luxury house Yves Saint Laurent, Thomas Carlyle Ford founded Tom Ford in 2005.

Ford opened an online store in 2006 and, the following year, his flagship boutique at 845 Madison Avenue in New York City. His clothing, eyewear, watches, and fragrances quickly became a favorite among celebrities. Fashionistas and frag-heads expectedly followed suit.

When it comes to clothing, eyewear, and accessories, Ford’s sense of style is undeniable. In 2006, he made his mark on the world of fragrances when he launched the iconic Black Orchid in collaboration with American conglomerate Estée Lauder.

A year later, in 2007, Tom Ford introduced the Private Blend Collection of luxury fragrances, and, with the addition of new scents, that collection has been growing since.

Our Review

Can you really capture all the essence of a hot summer’s day by the sea in a bottle?

After sampling Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford—a 2018 flanker of the white floral fragrance Soleil Blanc—I can once and for all reply to this question with the definitive answer of “yes.”

The waves clashing calmly against the wet, sandy beach. The squawking of the seagulls flying by, dipping their feet in the sea. The citrus trees beautifying the landscape with their ripe fruit on the hills in the distance.

The coconuts filling the air with their sweet, soapy fragrance. The breeze, the most skilled perfumer of all, indulging you in an alchemy of citrus, florals, and tropical fruits.

The top notes are bitter orange, neroli, bergamot, pistachio, cardamom, and pink pepper. Heart notes are tuberose, jasmine, ylang-ylang, and Moroccan orange blossom. Base notes are coco de mer, vanilla, tonka bean, amber, and benzoin.

Eau de Soleil Blanc is by far one of the freshest, most aquatic citrusy fragrances I’ve ever tried. (And, as regular readers of the Fragrance section at Sterlish know, I love wearing this type of perfume in the summer).

It’s effortlessly chic and elegant. At the same time, youthful and invigorating. When I spray it on, I feel like “that girl” who just got flown in on her private jet for a weekend getaway on her family’s private island, thousands of miles away from the hustle and bustle of midtown, neatly tucked away in the Pacific Ocean.

It’s like sipping on a cool citrusy cocktail in the pool by the beach, throwing eyes at your admirer, and pretending to be completely innocent, as if you’re doing nothing at all.

It’s effervescent. Uplifting. Airy.

When you wear it, you feel rejuvenated, refreshed, and playful.

Tom Ford’s Eau de Soleil Blanc really is the epitome of a hot summer’s day. One of the few scents I can wear on the dog days of summer. Compared to its original inspiration, Soleil Blanc, this scent is also easier to wear during the day because it’s lighter on the florals and heavier on the citrus.

Think of Eau de Soleil Blanc as the younger, more mischievous sister who’s basking in the sun and splashing water on everyone who refuses to join her in the pool. Soleil Blanc is the older, more mysterious sister who prefers to lounge in the shade of the umbrella and sip on coconut cocktails, her wit, and panache concealed by a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses.

Longevity

The longevity of Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford is 2 to 3 hours when sprayed on the pulse points of the body, and up to 6 hours when also sprayed on clothes and hair.

You asked, we answered: Why some perfumes last longer than others

Sillage

The sillage of Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford is great in the first hour or two. Then, it weakens and becomes a skin scent.

Layer Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford with Bal d’Afrique by Byredo for a clean, fresh, and comforting scent.

Layer Eau de Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford with White Suede by Tom Ford for a bright summer night scent with a leathery twist.

Frequently Asked

What’s the difference between Eau de Soleil Blanc (EDT) and Soleil Blanc (EDP) by Tom Ford?

Eau de Soleil Blanc is a lighter, fresher take on the original Soleil Blanc. If you’re looking for a citrusy fresh fragrance perfect for summer, go for Eau de Soleil Blanc. If you want a denser, creamier, sweeter coconut scent, go for Soleil Blanc.

In Conclusion

This perfume makes me love summer even more. It’s the perfect accessory for a beach vacation or a honeymoon on the French Riviera.

Eau de Soleil Blanc doesn’t pretend to be anything more than it is, and it is already plenty: a carefree, fun, playful day at the beach. A day you’ll look back on with a smile on your face…
